NUC Speaks On Viral List Of Fake Professors In UNILAG, UI, Others

2 min read

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has discredited a circulating social media list alleging the presence of 100 fake professors in Nigerian universities.

The report, attributed to a Lagos-based electronic media in 2019, has been widely shared online recently. NUC asserts that the list is false, emphasizing that such information wouldn’t come from the regulatory body without proper consultation with accredited universities.

According to Dr. Noel Abiodun Saliu, Deputy Executive Secretary in Charge of its Academic Directorate, such information should be taken as mischievous and unfounded; and could not have emanated from National Universities Commission.

He emphasized that the publication should be viewed as the work of mischief-makers aiming to tarnish the reputable institutions mentioned and undermine the efforts of the apex regulatory educational agency.

Similarly, a statement made available by Adetunji Adeleye, Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs Directorate, Redeemer’s University, Ede,Osun State, rejected, denounced and dissociated the university from such abominable publication.

He noted that the persons whose names were listed as professors in Redeemer’s University are NOT our staff and have never worked in Redeemer’s University at any point in time, in ANY capacity whatsoever.

He informed the general public that these “professors” are not known to us and anyone who deals with them as individuals or a group, does so at his or her own risk.

He warned the general to be wary of fake news and advised them to always cross check the fact from the National Universities Commission which is the apex regulatory educational body that oversees universities in Nigeria.
