“How Can You Be Owing And Be Doing Charity” Netizens React As Court Declines Davido’s Application To Halt Case With Amaju Pinnick

2 min read

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke better known as Davido has left many calling out his hypocrisy over his love for charity and habit of breaching contracts.

A Delta State High Court sitting in Effurun had refused the singer’s application seeking a stay of proceedings in the N2 billion suit filed against him by former NFF president, Amaju Pinnick.

Amaju’s company had filed the suit against him after he failed to perform at the ‘Warri Again concert’, and is seeking N2 billion in damages. To add to it, his company wants Davido to be responsible for their legal fees, which would amount to N150 million and an additional N30 million as the cost of filing the suit.

During the hearing of the case, Davido’s counsel informed the court that there was a pending appeal and that the defendants, Davido and his record label had filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. However, he applied to withdraw the motion and submitted that the Court of Appeal had become seized with authority over the proceedings pending before the lower court.

The Counsel to Amaju didn’t oppose the application to withdraw the motion and the court granted the same according.

Unfortunately, the court in a bench ruling upheld the claimant’s argument and held that until an order saying further proceedings is obtained from the Court of Appeals, the High Court will continue with proceedings in the case.

The news has left the internet divided as many questioned how a philanthropist could be owing debts.
