Fury Set To Fight Anthony Joshua If Wilder Accepts ‘Step-Aside Money’

2 min read

Tyson Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren believes his man will fight Anthony Joshua in the autumn – with Saudi Arabia the most likely destination to host.

Fury beat Deontay Wilder by way of a seventh-round TKO in Las Vegas last weekend, leading to much speculation over the possibility of an all-British unification bout.

Team Fury has not given up hope of Wilder accepting some ‘step aside money’ to clear the way for it to happen, while Warren has hit out at the American.

“It would be expensive [to pay him off] – but who knows. The only way you find it is if you try,’ Warren told the Telegraph.

“He’s made some stupid statements, I think. I hoped he’d take the defeat as I think he should have done – with grace. All that nonsense about the [ring walk] costume [weighing him down] was garbage.’

Sportsmail revealed that Saudi Arabia has the financial might to outbid Wembley for the rights to host, and Warren admits he would not be surprised if that was the case.

“You go back to Ali fighting Foreman in Zaire when a lot of money was put up, you got back to the Thrilla in Manila, where money was put up. That happens in boxing.’

If the bout did take place, Warren is under no illusions over who would run out a simple winner.

“All I can say at our end is that if we can do it we’ll do it, for obvious reasons. I think Tyson will do a job on him.’
