FPI: A Home Of Discipline

Despite the outrageous indiscipline in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI) comes out to be different in the aspects of the discipline.
Indiscipline has become a normal phenomenon in tertiary institutions but FPI distinct itself from such mess.
The school management of this institution always makes sure that the students of the institution abide by the rules and regulations.
Speaking with newsmen on campus in interviews are some of the views of the students towards discipline in the school.
Obadimu Ismail, a 200 level student of computer science said, “The school is like a bridge between goals and achievement for the student.” He added that ‘’without hard work and discipline it is difficult to be a top professional.’’
Another student, Abdul Rahman Oyetade in the department of Electrical Engineering also said that “in term of discipline, the school is known better for that, my parent intentionally sent me to this prestigious institution because of the high discipline in the school”.
Additionally, offences like stealing, damage of asset, arson forgery, impersonation, unlawful assembly indecent sexual practices or batter of fellow students and other unlawful of in disciplinary conducts or practices related to it is not tolerated by the institution and the penalty for it is very high.
Moreover, the penalty for drunkenness or smoking on campus, breach of peace, publication and display of obscure materials, obstruction of the enforcement of the institutional regulation, using religion to disrupt activities on campus is rustication for two semesters according to the constitution enshrined in the student handbook of the institution.
However, students of this institution always make sure that they do not fall, victims of these offences, because the penalty is certain. Cultism which is rampant in an institution like this, have been reduced to the barest minimum or let say the institution is free of cultism within the campus.
The school management has made all sorts of violent acts or indiscipline actions out of the institution.
A bad company which bring about initiation into secret cults hat involves taking lives of other people intenave been totally eradicated from the institution.
Discipline in the institution has made a lot of the students to move freely on the school campus even though at night most especially when students go to night class during the examination period.
Students of this intuition are always in confidence in any place within the campus because there is comprehensive security in the school.
Unlawful activities or misconducts are not allowed by the institution.
Meanwhile, siblings have become overall best students in Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. Okeke Henry and her younger sister Okeke Gloria became overall best students for 2016/2017 academic session in Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.
The Rector of the institution Architect Olusegun Aluko disclosed this at the 17th convocation and 38th founder’s Day ceremonies of the institution held at Ilaro campus.
Aluko said, ‘’the students were both extremely successful in all their examinations conducted by the institution. He added they have not only graduated academically but also morally’’
Reading out the results for 2016/2017 graduating set, he said a total number of 2525 students graduated from both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
Giving the breakdown 1650 and 375 got ND and HND in their courses of study respectively.
Aluko added that they all met the conditions set by the institution while also establishing good manners and decorum during their stay in the institution.
