FIFA BLOCKS ARGENTINA’S PLAN TO RETIRE MESSI’S NO. 10 SHIRT

FIFA regulations have reportedly prevented Argentina from retiring Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 shirt in honour of the legendary forward.
According to reports published by GOAL.com, Argentina had considered permanently withdrawing the number from use after Messi’s international career comes to an end.
The proposal was intended to recognise Messi’s extraordinary contributions to Argentine football, including leading the national team to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
However, FIFA’s regulations require participating national teams to use shirt numbers from 1 to 26 during the World Cup, making it impossible for Argentina to permanently retire the No. 10 under the current rules.
Messi has enjoyed a remarkable international career, winning the Copa América and the World Cup while becoming Argentina’s all-time leading scorer and most-capped player.
Although the reported plan has been blocked by the regulations, Messi’s legacy in Argentine football remains significant, with his achievements continuing to shape the country’s football history.
