EPL: Sam Allardyce Gives Reasons Loftus-Cheek Should Leave Chelsea In January

2 min read

Former Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace manager, Sam Allardyce has urged Chelsea midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window in order to build his career.

Loftus-Cheek has not being a regular starter for manager, Maurizio Sarri’s side this campaign.

The England international featured twice as a substitute in the club’s first four games of the new Premier League season.

The arrival of midfielders, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea in the summer have served to massively increase the competition for places in the middle of the pack, with N’Golo Kante and Fabregas also vying for a regular spot.

Loftus-Cheek is at the moment way down in the pecking order at the club, despite enjoying an impressive spell on loan at Crystal Palace last year which earned him a place in England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad in the summer.

But, Allardyce believes Loftus-Cheek should leave the West London club because he’s too talented to play.

“I’m disappointed for Loftus-Cheek,” Allardyce told talkSPORT.

“Chelsea have told him he’s going to be a part of the team this season and, if that is the case, they haven’t lived up to that yet.

“What he did for Crystal Palace last season and for England at the World Cup, I thought this would be a big season for him at Chelsea, but it’s simply not happening.

“If I were Loftus-Cheek I would be battering the door down in January and saying, ‘that’s it, I need to get away’.

“And not on loan, get away from Chelsea properly and build his career.

“He’s had the taste of playing first-team football at Palace and obviously he loves Chelsea, but it’s not happening for him there.

“He’s got to play. He’s too talented not to play, we’ve all seen that.”

Chelsea will take on Man United in their next Premier League fixture on October 20 after the international break, this weekend.
