El-Rufai to File No-Case Submission as DSS Closes Wiretapping Trial
Abuja, Nigeria – Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is set to file a no-case submission in the ongoing wiretapping case against him following the closure of the prosecution’s case by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The move comes after the DSS concluded presenting its evidence and witnesses before the court, paving the way for the defence to respond to the allegations.
A no-case submission is a legal procedure through which a defendant asks the court to dismiss charges on the grounds that the prosecution has failed to establish a prima facie case requiring a defence.
El-Rufai’s legal team is expected to argue that the evidence presented by the DSS is insufficient to sustain the charges and that the case should be struck out.
The wiretapping trial has attracted significant public attention due to El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigeria’s political landscape and the nature of the allegations.
Legal observers say the court’s decision on the no-case submission will determine whether the former governor will be required to open his defence or whether the matter will be dismissed at this stage.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for the hearing of the defence application and further proceedings.
