2 min read

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday declared former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello wanted for alleged money laundering.

The commission shared a poster declaring the ex-governor wanted via its official social media handle.

The poster reads, “The public is hereby notified that YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO (former Governor of Kogi State), whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with alleged case of Money Laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88 (Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand and Eighty Nine Naira, Eighty Eight Kobo).

“Bello, 48-year old Ebiraman, is a native of Okenne Local Government of Kogi State. His last known address is: 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.

“Anybody with useful information as to their whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Benin, Kaduna, Ibadan, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Makurdi, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Uyo, Port Harcourt and Abuja offices or through this number +2348093322644; its e-mail address: Info@efcc.gov.ng or the nearest Police Station and other security agencies.”

Recall that the arraignment of the former Kogi governor before a Federal High Court by the EFCC was stalled on Thursday due to his absence in court.

However, when the matter came up on Thursday, his lawyer said there is an exparte order restraining EFCC from arresting and prosecuting the former Governor which EFCC appealed against at the Court of Appeal.

It will be recalled that the EFCC failed to arrest Mr. Bello on Wednesday after laying siege on his Abuja home for over 8 hours.
