LAGOS TARGETS 2,500 MEDICAL STUDENTS ANNUALLY BY 2028
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to increase the annual student intake of its medical university to 2,500 by 2028 as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
The initiative is aimed at increasing the number of locally trained medical professionals and addressing concerns over the migration of doctors and other healthcare workers abroad in search of better opportunities.
The government plans to expand the institution’s capacity to accommodate more students and support the training of future healthcare professionals.
The move comes amid growing concerns about the shortage of medical personnel in Nigeria, with many trained professionals leaving the country for opportunities overseas.
By increasing admissions, the state hopes to strengthen medical education and contribute to building a larger pool of qualified healthcare workers.
The plan is also expected to support Lagos State’s broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery and develop the workforce needed to meet the growing demands of its population.
