TINUBU PAYS TRIBUTE TO EX-NADECO CHIEFTAIN, CHIEF RALPH OBIOHA
President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to former NADECO chieftain, elder statesman and businessman, Chief Ralph Obioha, who died at the age of 80.
Obioha, a founding member of the National Democratic Coalition, died on October 3, 2026, with his family announcing his passing in Enugu.
He was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle during the military era and played a role in the campaign for the restoration of democracy following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Obioha also served as a member of the House of Representatives during the Second Republic and later founded the Justice Party.
President Tinubu had in June named Obioha among Nigerians recognised for their contributions to the June 12 pro-democracy struggle. Obioha, however, declined the national honour.
The late elder statesman was also involved in the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and served as chairman of its Caretaker Committee.
Tinubu’s tribute adds to the condolences being expressed following the death of the veteran pro-democracy campaigner.
