Leave Royal Fathers Out of Politics, Kwara APC Aspirants Tell Tinubu
Ilorin, Nigeria – No fewer than 10 aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have cautioned President Bola Tinubu against involving traditional rulers in the state’s political process, particularly in the selection or endorsement of a preferred candidate.
The aspirants expressed concern over what they described as attempts to draw royal fathers into partisan politics, warning that such actions could undermine the neutrality and revered status of traditional institutions.
In a statement, the group argued that traditional rulers are custodians of culture and unity and should remain above political contests to preserve public confidence and respect for their offices.
They urged party leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the process leading to the emergence of candidates remains transparent, democratic, and free from undue influence.
According to the aspirants, allowing royal fathers to play active roles in political endorsements could create divisions within communities and weaken the non-partisan standing of traditional institutions.
The group called on President Tinubu and the APC leadership to uphold internal democracy and provide a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of future political contests in the state.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to the party while urging members to prioritize unity, fairness, and due process in all political engagements.
The development highlights growing political tensions within the Kwara APC as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the next governorship race.
