NDLEA Strategises for Violence-Free Polls

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified efforts to ensure peaceful and violence-free elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The agency disclosed that it is strengthening its operations through targeted raids on identified drug flashpoints across the state, aimed at reducing the influence of illicit substances often linked to electoral violence and criminal activities.
Speaking on the initiative, officials of the command emphasized the need to tackle drug abuse and trafficking as part of broader measures to safeguard the electoral process. The agency noted that curbing the availability of illicit drugs would help reduce incidents of violence, thuggery, and other disruptive activities during elections.
The NDLEA also revealed that it is collaborating with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, civil society groups, and electoral bodies, to promote a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the elections.
According to the command, sustained public enlightenment campaigns and community engagement programmes will complement enforcement actions to educate residents on the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on public safety and democratic processes.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring credible, transparent, and violence-free elections in 2027, urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities within their communities.
