Nigerian Academy of Science Urges Greater Investment in Research, Innovation

The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and state governments to prioritise increased investment in scientific research, innovation, and development to drive national progress.

The academy stressed that stronger funding for research institutions and innovation initiatives is critical for addressing key socio-economic challenges and ensuring sustainable development in Nigeria.

According to NAS, scientific research and technological advancement play a vital role in improving sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and industrial development. The organisation noted that countries that consistently invest in science and innovation are better positioned to achieve economic growth and global competitiveness.

The academy therefore urged policymakers to create enabling environments that support researchers, promote collaboration between universities and industries, and strengthen the nation’s scientific infrastructure.

NAS also emphasised the importance of developing home-grown solutions through research-driven innovation, noting that such efforts would help Nigeria address local challenges while contributing to global scientific advancement.

The call forms part of ongoing advocacy by the academy to encourage strategic investment in science and technology as a foundation for long-term national development. 🔬🇳🇬
