Police Arrest 35-Year-Old Man for Illegal Firearm Possession in Edo

Benin City, Nigeria — The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man for unlawful possession of a firearm as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal weapons in the state.

According to police sources, the suspect was apprehended during a routine security operation. A Beretta pistol was reportedly recovered from him at the time of arrest. Authorities said the suspect could not provide a valid license or satisfactory explanation for possessing the weapon.

The Command stated that the arrest forms part of intensified efforts to rid the state of illegal arms and curb violent crimes, including armed robbery and cult-related activities.

Police officials confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. He is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
