Oyo Hands Over Management of Iyake Suspended Lake to LCDA

The Oyo State Government has temporarily handed over the management of the historic Iyake Suspended Lake to the Araromi Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The decision, according to state officials, is aimed at improving oversight, boosting tourism potential and ensuring proper maintenance of the natural attraction located in Ado Awaye.

Authorities said the arrangement will enable the LCDA to oversee daily operations, enhance security around the site and implement measures to preserve the ecological integrity of the lake, which is regarded as one of the rare suspended lakes in the world.

The state government emphasised that the handover is temporary and subject to review, noting that it aligns with broader efforts to promote community participation in tourism management and local economic development.

Local leaders in Araromi LCDA welcomed the development, pledging to work closely with traditional authorities and residents to maintain the site and attract more visitors.

The Iyake Suspended Lake has long been a cultural and tourism landmark in Oyo State, drawing tourists, researchers and adventure seekers from across Nigeria and beyond.
