Protesters Rally at Kaduna Government House, Demand Probe of El-Rufai’s Tenure

KADUNA, NIGERIA — A group of protesters gathered at the Kaduna State Government House, calling for an investigation into the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, citing concerns over insecurity, public debt, and unresolved cases during his tenure.

The demonstrators, comprising residents and civil society voices, carried placards and chanted slogans urging authorities to review aspects of the previous government’s policies and financial commitments. Among the issues raised were the state’s borrowing profile, security conditions, and the long-standing disappearance of social commentator Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.

Protest leaders said their demands centered on transparency and accountability, arguing that a formal probe would clarify public concerns and strengthen governance standards. “Our call is for due process and institutional review, not political confrontation,” one organizer stated.

Security personnel were observed monitoring the protest, which remained largely peaceful, while traffic and activities around the Government House experienced temporary disruptions.

State authorities had not issued a detailed response at the time of reporting. However, political analysts note that calls for post-tenure scrutiny of public officials are not uncommon in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape, particularly when governance and security issues are involved.

Observers say the development highlights continuing public debate over governance performance and the role of civic engagement in democratic accountability.
