Oyo Releases ₦900m Counterpart Funding for 68km Road Projects

IBADAN, NIGERIA — The Oyo State Government has approved the release of ₦900 million as counterpart funding for the construction and rehabilitation of 68 kilometres of roads across the state, in a move aimed at improving transportation and boosting economic activities.

State officials said the funding forms part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts designed to enhance connectivity between urban and rural communities. The projects are expected to address critical road segments, ease traffic movement, and reduce travel time for residents and businesses.

According to government sources, the counterpart funding arrangement will support collaborative infrastructure initiatives, enabling the state to accelerate delivery timelines while maintaining quality standards. Authorities emphasized that improved road networks remain central to economic growth, trade, and access to essential services.

The government noted that the selected road projects will cut across multiple zones, reflecting a strategy to ensure balanced development and maximize the socio-economic impact of public investments.

Infrastructure analysts say sustained road rehabilitation and expansion could strengthen logistics, facilitate agricultural distribution, and stimulate local commerce. They add that such investments often generate employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases.

The Oyo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading public infrastructure, describing transportation as a key driver of development and competitiveness.

Project implementation is expected to commence in phases, with monitoring mechanisms in place to ensure compliance with specifications and timelines.
