10m awaits the winner in lagos Swimming Competition
1 min readSwimmers at the 2016 Lagos Open Water International Championship will battle for the N10m cash prizes at stake, organisers of the event have said.
The championship is organised by the Nigeria Aquatic Federation in conjunction with Geo Planning System Technologies.
According to the coordinator of the event, Mr. Olarenwaju Saheed, the event earlier scheduled for June 3 to 5, has been rescheduled for June 4 and 5.
He said the change in plans was to enable foreign countries, who have indicated interest, to properly perfect their arrangements ahead of the event.
Olarenwaju explained that this was the first time Nigeria would host such an event, which would include countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Mali, and Benin Republic.
About 300 swimmers from Lagos State have indicated their interest in the championship and would be vying for honours with their counterparts from other states.
Olanrewaju, a board member of the Lagos State Swimming Association, added that the foreign umpires were expected on June 1 and 2.
He stated that due to the high number of entries and participation of foreign athletes, the association was seeking for more sponsorship for the championship.
