6,308 Students to Benefit as NELFund Disburses N1.33bn to UNILAG
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has disbursed ₦1.33 billion to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session, benefiting thousands of students under the federal student loan programme.
In a statement released on Friday, the Director of Communications at NELFund, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, confirmed that the funds were paid to UNILAG on January 19, in line with the institution’s approved disbursement schedule for the academic session.
According to Oluwatuyi, the ₦1.33 billion will cover the tuition and related academic costs of 6,308 UNILAG students who successfully met all eligibility requirements for the loan scheme.
She noted that the disbursement reflects NELFund’s commitment to improving access to higher education by easing the financial burden on students and their families.
The student loan programme, introduced by the federal government, is designed to ensure that no qualified Nigerian is denied access to tertiary education due to financial constraints.
NELFund reiterated its assurance that funds will continue to be released promptly to beneficiary institutions nationwide, as long as applicants meet the stipulated criteria under the scheme.
