Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know Thursday morning:

 

1. President Bola Tinubu has issued marching order to security agencies to tackle insecurity within the country. He issued the directive during a meeting with security chiefs on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was contained in a statement signed by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

 

2. Nigeria’s airline, Air Peace, has announced the immediate suspension of all its flight operations across Nigeria following an ongoing strike by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet. The airline disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

 

3. Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

 

4. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has condemned what it termed an outrageous statement credited to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, claiming that 150 million Nigerians now enjoy “adequate electricity” with 5,500MW. President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, condemned the statement in a release on Wednesday, saying this wild assertion is not only pretentious, but a bad joke on a people daily confronted by grinding darkness, outrageous electricity tariffs, and a power sector manipulated for private profit at the expense of national progress.

 

5. The federal government of Nigeria has announced the disbursement of N50 billion to the academic and non-academic unions of federal universities for the settlement of unpaid earned allowances.The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, disclosed this in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, on Wednesday.

 

6. Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, says former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, must leave PDP immediately over alleged anti-party activities. In a statement on Wednesday, in Lagos, George said the party is being embarrassed by the open display of affinity by the duo to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

 

7. The chairman committee on Public Account in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Oke, who is a six-term legislator announced his decision to depart from the PDP on Wednesday.

 

8. The senator representing Kano South senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. He confirmed his defection in a statement made available to journalists in Kano on Wednesday, saying that all politics is local.

 

9. A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State, Musa Kwankwaso, has said a former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, was part of those who cheated the North. He disclosed this in a statement where he pointed out that Galadima and Baba-Ahmed can’t stop the North from voting for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

 

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has cautioned the public to be wary of fake land vendors parading themselves in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. The EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale gave the warning in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
