APC Denies Rift Between Obasa, Seyi Tinubu Over 2027 Governorship Race
2 min readThe Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has categorically rejected claims of a rift between Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, over the governorship race ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a strongly worded statement, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, dismissed rumors and speculations circulating about the ambitions of Obasa and Seyi Tinubu to contest for the governorship seat.
Oladejo insisted that such discussions were “premature” and not part of the party’s agenda at this time.

“There is no truth to the claims of a rift or any battle for the governorship ticket. The party has not even begun any serious discussion regarding the 2027 election.
Right now, our focus is on effective governance, not divisive politicking,” Oladejo said in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust.
He continued, “What we are seeing now is an attempt by opposition parties to stir unnecessary controversy. There is no clash between Speaker Obasa and Seyi Tinubu, nor between any other party members with governorship ambitions.”
Oladejo urged members of the APC to remain united as the party prepares for its congress and the local government elections in 2025.
“This is not the time for distractions. We need to focus on delivering impactful governance for the people of Lagos,” he added.
The denial comes in the wake of speculation that Obasa and Seyi Tinubu might be vying for the governorship seat, fueled by recent political developments and media reports.
Opposition leaders, including the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Philip Aivoji, have been quick to seize on the situation, though Aivoji firmly denied any involvement in the rumors.
