Aiyedatiwa Promises To Accept Election Outcome If Transparent, Calls For Peaceful Process

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared his readiness to accept the outcome of the state’s governorship election, provided the process remains transparent and free of fraud.
Speaking after casting his vote on Saturday, November 16, 2024, Aiyedatiwa, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), commended the peaceful conduct of the election and urged the people of Ondo State to continue participating actively in the voting process.
In an exclusive interview with journalists shortly after casting his ballot, Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies, noting that the election was progressing smoothly across the state.

“The assessment so far is that the election is peaceful. From the information I’ve received, people are generally casting their votes without incident,” the governor said.
He highlighted that his personal experience with the accreditation and voting process had been seamless, crediting INEC for adhering to established procedures.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also praised the youth for their peaceful conduct, emphasizing that the election in Ondo had been free of violence, a welcome contrast to past elections in the country.
“Apart from the 1983 crisis, Ondo has had peaceful elections. We have learned our lessons and we conduct ourselves better now,” he added.
While expressing optimism for a credible and conclusive result, the governor made it clear that he would accept the election outcome, regardless of whether it favored his party, as long as no evidence of electoral malpractice emerged.
“Whatever the outcome of this exercise, we should all accept it as the decision of the people,” Aiyedatiwa said. “If it doesn’t favor my party, I will accept it, provided there are no fraudulent practices. So far, from what I’ve gathered, there have been no reports of any such issues.”
