Troubled Tweets Of Man Who Jumped Into Festac canal

2 min read

The man who jumped into a canal in the Festac area of Lagos State on Saturday morning has been identified by friends as Bayode Ahmed Lawal by friends.

Some of them who tweeted at him lamented that they missed the fact that he had apparently been troubled for some time.

An eyewitness had told Sunday PUNCH that the reason for the man’s action was unclear as he moved close to the Festac Link Bridge and dived in.

His last tweets on April 5 were equally puzzling. “I am God,” he declared in his last tweet on April 5.

Just before that he decried his treatment by family members, repeating a tweet he first tweeted on March 12.

Faced everyone in my entire world alone even my family was against me. Kept saying I was mad, but here I am

That preceded a cryptic tweet:

I’ve beaten him…..

On March 12 when Lawal, who has over 1500 follows on Twitter would tweeted about his treatment by his family, he also tweeted, “Boy am going to enjoy myself to the fullest when I get out of here. Am God I await you to proclaim me king.”

Although there was a tweet about football here and about music there, he suggested his life wasn’t all right.

Some of his friends and followers on Twitter have commented about the sad news.

Community news platform, Festac Online, reported that Lawal had been with friends around Mobil filling station when he laid down on the floor.

When his friend urged him to get up and tried to find out what was wrong, he reportedly got up, started walking fast before running towards the bridge and jumping into the canal before they could catch up.

Many residents and passers-by rushed to the scene as rescue workers tried to save him from drowning with no luck.
