Speaking in his New Year message to the nation early this morning, Tinubu reflected on the challenges of 2024 but expressed optimism that the nation’s economy and national unity would improve in the coming months.

In his address, the president acknowledged the hardship faced by citizens due to economic difficulties but highlighted recent positive economic indicators, including a reduction in fuel prices, rising foreign reserves, and a strengthening Naira.

He also shared the government’s commitment to tackling the high cost of living and inflation, targeting a reduction from its current rate of 34.6% to 15% by the end of the year.

“Your sacrifices have not been in vain over the past 19 months. I assure you they will not be in vain even in the months ahead. Together, let us stay the course of nation-building,” Tinubu said.

He expressed gratitude for the trust Nigerians had placed in him and promised to continue serving the country with diligence and dedication.

The president also set a forward-looking agenda for the year, emphasizing that the government would take concrete steps to lower food prices and encourage local manufacturing.

Also, he announced the creation of the National Credit Guarantee Company, which will increase access to credit for individuals and businesses, especially focusing on women and youth.

Tinubu further reiterated his vision of transforming Nigeria into a trillion-dollar economy, stressing the importance of unity in achieving this goal. He called on all citizens to set aside divisive political, ethnic, and religious views and work towards a collective national purpose.

“The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire, and the Nigeria of our dreams. Let us not get distracted by those who still view issues through the prisms of politics, ethnicity, region, and religion,” he said.

The president also highlighted key initiatives such as the National Values Charter, which will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2025.

He also promised to launch a national orientation campaign to inspire patriotism and unity.

In a call to state and local governments, Tinubu urged them to collaborate with the federal government on emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and energy reforms.

He commended governors who had embraced initiatives such as the Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicle adoption for public transport.
