Wike Faults Amaechi Over Appearance at National Assembly Protest
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his presence at a recent protest at the National Assembly, questioning the circumstances surrounding the appearance.
Speaking during a media interaction in Abuja, Wike took issue with Amaechi’s decision to attend the protest alongside his son, whom he described as a medical doctor. The FCT minister argued that the former minister’s actions raised concerns, particularly regarding the absence of professional medical equipment.
Wike contended that if Amaechi’s son was present in a professional capacity, appropriate tools and identification associated with medical practice should have been visible. He suggested that the development appeared inconsistent with standard expectations for medical personnel at public gatherings.
The minister further stated that public figures must exercise caution in situations that could generate controversy or misinterpretation. He maintained that the issue was not personal but related to public accountability and optics.
Amaechi has not publicly responded to the remarks at the time of reporting. However, political observers say the exchange reflects ongoing tensions between the two prominent political figures, both of whom previously served as governors of Rivers State.
The protest at the National Assembly has continued to attract attention, with varying reactions from political actors and commentators. Analysts note that disputes among political leaders often amplify the broader narratives surrounding such public demonstrations.
