What Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa Told Me – Samuel Chukwueze
1 min readSuper Eagles forward, Samuel Chukwueze, has revealed what captain, John Obi Mikel and vice-captain, Ahmed Musa told him before the kick-off of Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday night.
The Villarreal winger disclosed that both Mikel and Musa had told him not to be afraid of Bafana Bafana after he was selected to start the match by manager, Gernot Rohr.
The 20-year-old also pointed that the duo advised him to just do what he knows how to do best on the pitch against Stuart Baxter’s men.
Chukwueze gave Super Eagles a 1-0 lead at the break after an assist from Alex Iwobi.
However, South Africa levelled in the second half, thanks to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision.
With the match looking to head into extra time, William Troost-Ekong forced the ball over the line in the final minute of play.
“Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa said to me, Samuel, you have been selected by the coach (Gernot Rohr) to start this game against South Africa,” Chukwueze told SuperSport after the match.
“You know how to play ball, just do what you know how to do best, do not listen to negative talks. don’t be afraid of anyone.
“And I told them don’t worry I am going to do my best and it happens I scored a goal, I’m happy.”
