We’ll Promote Tinubu’s Agricultural Policies – MOUAU Female VC

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi-Akanwa, has pledged to align the institution’s programmes with the agricultural transformation agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Prof. Ngozi-Akanwa, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the university, made the commitment while outlining her vision for the institution’s future. She said MOUAU would play a strategic role in advancing federal government policies aimed at boosting food security, agribusiness development, and rural economic growth.

According to her, the university will intensify research in climate-smart agriculture, mechanised farming, value-chain development and agro-technology innovation. She stressed that translating research findings into practical solutions for farmers and agro-industries would remain a top priority under her administration.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced plans to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, private sector investors and international development organisations to attract funding and modernise research facilities. She noted that positioning MOUAU as a leading agricultural innovation hub in Africa requires collaboration, digital transformation and industry-driven research.

Prof. Ngozi-Akanwa assured staff and students of inclusive leadership, improved welfare, and enhanced academic standards. She emphasised that empowering young researchers and female scholars would be central to her administration’s goals.

She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting national development through cutting-edge agricultural research and training, expressing confidence that MOUAU would significantly contribute to achieving the country’s food sufficiency targets under the current administration.
