Waste Management: Firm Partners Swedish Embassy to Launch NIWAD 1.0

Plogging Nigeria, in partnership with the Swedish Embassy, has launched the Nigeria Interactive Waste Directory (NIWAD 1.0), a digital platform designed to improve access to recycling and waste management services across the country.

The initiative aims to address challenges in waste disposal by providing users with a comprehensive directory of recycling points, waste collectors, and related service providers.

Speaking at the launch, representatives of Plogging Nigeria highlighted the need for innovative solutions to tackle Nigeria’s growing waste management concerns, noting that access to reliable information remains a major barrier.

They explained that NIWAD 1.0 is expected to bridge this gap by connecting individuals, businesses, and organisations to verified waste management services in their locations.

Officials from the Swedish Embassy also underscored the importance of international collaboration in promoting environmental sustainability, adding that the project aligns with global efforts to encourage responsible waste practices.

Stakeholders noted that the platform could significantly enhance recycling rates, reduce environmental pollution, and support the development of a circular economy in Nigeria.

Environmental advocates have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that leverages technology to drive behavioural change and improve waste management systems.

The launch of NIWAD 1.0 marks a step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to adopt sustainable practices and strengthen partnerships aimed at protecting the environment.
