Voyage Into The Developments In Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro As Aluko Emerges Again

“One good term deserves another”, is a statement justifying the reappointment of the untiring Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Dr. Oluesegun Olanrewaju Aluko.
Aluko who is an Architect resumed office as the Rector of the Institution since 2014 and also has been re-appointed as the new Rector in 2018.
It was said that since the resumption of Aluko, developments have really taken a greater measure in the institution compared to the previous years before he became the Rector of the institution.
Therefore, thorough research was conducted to look critically at achievements and developments so far he became the Rector of this institution.
However, It was gathered that during his first tenure, students, academic and non-academic staff members of this Institution have always commended him for his efforts towards development in the institution.
In a related development, In his first tenure, he was able to introduce new programmes (such as ND Agric and Bio-Environmental Engineering, ND Taxation, ND Insurance, ND Library and Information Science, ND Mass communication , ND Art and Design, ND Leisure and Tourism, ND Music Technology as well as HND Microbiology Option in Science Laboratory Technology, HND Environmental Biology Option in Science Laboratory Technology and HND Instrumentation Option in Mechanical Engineering, they are not all the new programmes that the institution has started.), improve on the ICT facilities ( such as the introduction of e-library, fully online registration for new students and returning students, online result check), wage total war against cultism in the institution, create mutual relationship between school management and the students, instill high level of discipline,set up new buildings, set standards for entrepreneurial skills and more others.
After his first emergence, he made sure vices and atrocities were treated as it was supposed to be.
The Institution which was situated in Ilaro community has serene environment, well standard building, stable academic calendar, which made it stand out among other polytechnics in Ilaro.
As a matter of fact, the school has been reported to be the most sought-after Polytechnic in the country since 2004, unlike other institutions the school had been maintaining a consistent academic calendar over the last 12 years.

The institution is also set to start a top-up programme for students who arrived for a degree, in order to assist so that they so that they will not go for a degree programme in anything and hope that anytime there is the opportunity to convert any Polytechnic degree university.
On Saturday, 23rd June 2018 Aluko bagged an award as the MOST OUTSTANDING BEST PERFORMED RECTOR IN NIGERIA, 2017 from the NORTHERN ACHIEVERS INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE.
In the same vein, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro as an institution also bagged an award as THE MOST INNOVATIVE TOP BEST & VALUABLE POLYTECHNIC IN NIGERIA, 2017 by the same organization.
The Rector who always seek for the support of the staff has implored every worker of the institution to give full support to his administration as he resumes again.
He, therefore, entreated staff members of the Polytechnic on Tuesday at a success celebration party organized for him to celebrate the successful completion of his first term as the Rector of the institution and also to felicitate with him on his second term appointment.
According to the Rector, he asserted that he would not have been able to achieve success if not for the support he got from the entire staff of the institution at his first tenure in office
He also thanked the law enforcement agency(police) for the support they have rendered during his first term and also pleaded for continuity.
2018 Polytechnic Ranking: FG Ranked Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Second
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has ranked Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro as the second best in the country.
Masa’udu Kazaure, executive secretary of the board, made this known in Kaduna on Thursday.
Kazaure said Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo emerged the best after scoring 85.08 per cent in the assessment of 112 federal, state and private polytechnics in the country.
He said the exercise covered the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic sessions.
Kazaure said the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro came second with 73.08 per cent while Kaduna Polytechnic came third with 72.31 per cent.
Other polytechnics in the top 10 include The Polytechnic Ibadan, ranked fourth; Federal Polytechnic Bida is fifth while Auchi Polytechnic is ranked sixth.
Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, is seventh while Federal Polytechnic Offa, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and Yaba College of Technology jointly occupy the eighth position.
Federal Polytechnic Oko was ranked 11th while Federal Polytechnic, Idah, is 12th best in Nigeria.
The NBTE boss said when disaggregated by ownership, Federal Polytechnic Nekede also emerged the best federal polytechnic in the country followed by Federal Polytechnic Ilaro and Kaduna Polytechnic.
“The Polytechnic Ibadan, IMT and Rufus Giwa polytechnics were the highest ranked among state polytechnics, while Lagos City Polytechnic is the highest ranked private polytechnic and the 16th in the country,” he said.
“Dorben Polytechnic and Heritage Polytechnic were the second and third best private polytechnic in the country.”
Kazaure explained that the polytechnics were ranked based on the total number of programmes with full accreditation in the last two years and percentage of programmes with full accreditation.
He said: “Other criteria include proportion of academic staff showing the right mix, that is, chief lecturer and principal lecturer down to assistant lecturer; and ability of institution to introduce programme in new and emerging fields.
“They were equally assessed based on capacity building of staff both within and outside Nigeria, teaching quality, including staff /student ratio and ratio of full-time to part-time staff.
“Other areas are availability of current campus master plan, strategic plan, and academic brief; percentage of academic staff with relevant higher qualification and professional registration; and 70:30 technology-non-technology enrolment ratio.
“Another consideration was the incorporation of entrepreneurship education into the institute’s curriculum and fully established Entrepreneurship Development Centre.”
