US Military Assistance Free, Nigeria’s Sovereignty Intact — DHQ

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has clarified that ongoing United States military assistance to the country comes at no financial cost and does not compromise Nigeria’s sovereignty.

In a statement addressing public concerns, defence authorities explained that the collaboration is primarily focused on training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism support aimed at strengthening the operational effectiveness of Nigeria’s armed forces.

The DHQ emphasized that the partnership operates within mutually agreed frameworks that respect Nigeria’s independence and territorial integrity. Officials noted that no foreign troops are deployed for combat operations under the arrangement.

“The assistance is strictly professional and advisory, designed to enhance skills, intelligence sharing, and operational readiness,” defence officials stated.

According to military authorities, the cooperation includes specialized training programmes, tactical support, and knowledge exchange to help Nigerian forces respond more effectively to evolving security threats, particularly insurgency and terrorism.

Security analysts say international defence partnerships have become increasingly important as countries confront transnational security challenges requiring advanced training and technological expertise.

The DHQ reassured the public that all defence collaborations remain subject to Nigerian laws and oversight mechanisms, reiterating that national sovereignty remains fully protected.

The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions about foreign military cooperation and Nigeria’s broader strategy to address security challenges across various regions of the country.
