UAE Says It Intercepted Missiles, Drones in Iranian Attack

Several Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, have been targeted in a series of missile and drone strikes launched from Iran amid the broader Middle East escalation following recent conflict in the region. According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the country’s air defence systems successfully intercepted a large proportion of the incoming threats, including dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones aimed at its territory.

In an official statement, the ministry said its forces detected 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones launched toward the UAE, and successfully stopped 132 of the missiles and 195 of the drones before they could strike populated areas.

The defence authorities described the barrage as a serious escalation in hostilities and a “blatant violation of national sovereignty.” They reiterated that air defence systems remain on high alert and ready to respond to any further threats to the country’s security.

While the interceptions prevented major direct hits, debris from destroyed aerial threats caused some damage, and officials confirmed a small number of civilian deaths and injuries in recent days amid the violence.

Regional leaders and international observers are closely watching the situation, with tensions in the Gulf continuing to influence diplomatic, security and energy dynamics across the broader Middle East.
