Tinubu Vows to Deliver Ranching, Livestock Reforms to End Conflicts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing comprehensive livestock reforms, including ranching, as a strategy to end recurring farmer-herder conflicts and strengthen national security.

The President stated that unresolved clashes between farmers and herders have continued to claim lives, displace communities, and disrupt agricultural productivity, posing a serious threat to Nigeria’s economy and food security.

According to Tinubu, the Federal Government is working on modern livestock management systems that will replace open grazing with sustainable practices such as ranching, improved animal health services, and better regulation of the livestock value chain.

“Livestock reforms are critical to ending conflicts, boosting agricultural productivity, and securing rural communities,” the President said, adding that modern ranching would create jobs, attract investment, and enhance food production.

He explained that the reforms would be implemented in collaboration with state governments, traditional institutions, and private sector stakeholders to ensure inclusiveness and long-term success.

President Tinubu also noted that criminal elements have exploited the farmer-herder crisis to fuel insecurity in many regions, stressing that proper regulation of livestock activities would help curb banditry and other related crimes.

The President assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to balancing economic growth with peace and security, emphasizing that agriculture remains a key pillar of national development.

He urged stakeholders to support the reforms and embrace dialogue as the government moves to modernize the livestock sector and restore harmony between farming and pastoral communities across the country.
