Tinubu Meets NLC Leaders Over Planned Nationwide Protest Against Insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) amid plans by the labour union to stage a nationwide protest over rising insecurity across the country.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was aimed at addressing the concerns of organised labour regarding the increasing cases of banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges affecting citizens in different parts of Nigeria.

Speaking after the meeting, NLC leaders said they raised critical issues bordering on the safety of Nigerian workers and the general population, stressing that insecurity has continued to disrupt livelihoods and economic activities. The union reiterated its demand for urgent and decisive action by the federal government to tackle the situation.

President Tinubu, on his part, assured labour leaders of his administration’s commitment to improving national security. He emphasized that security agencies have been given clear directives to intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives and property across the country.

While the NLC did not immediately announce whether the planned protest would proceed or be suspended, the union noted that it would consult its organs before taking a final decision.

The meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the federal government to engage key stakeholders and prevent industrial actions that could further strain the nation’s economy.
