Tinubu Hails Obasanjo’s ‘Towering Influence’ at 89
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday, describing him as a statesman whose towering influence has shaped the course of Nigeria and the African continent.
In a goodwill message released on Wednesday, President Tinubu praised Obasanjo’s decades of service to the nation, noting that his contributions to governance, diplomacy, and national development remain significant in Nigeria’s history.
The President acknowledged Obasanjo’s role in Nigeria’s political evolution, particularly his leadership at critical moments in the country’s democratic journey. He described the former leader as a figure of enduring relevance whose voice continues to resonate in national discourse.
“Chief Obasanjo’s commitment to the unity, stability, and progress of Nigeria stands as a testament to his dedication to public service,” Tinubu said, adding that the elder statesman’s interventions in continental affairs have also strengthened Nigeria’s standing in Africa and beyond.
Obasanjo, who previously served as both military Head of State and later as a democratically elected President, has remained active in public life through advocacy, mediation efforts, and policy engagements.
President Tinubu prayed for continued good health and wisdom for the former leader, expressing hope that his wealth of experience would remain a guiding force for younger generations of leaders.
Political leaders, associates, and well-wishers across the country have also sent congratulatory messages, celebrating Obasanjo’s legacy and contributions to national development as he marks his 89th birthday.
