Tinubu Approves Commercial Oil Drilling in Ogun — Abiodun
Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, says President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling in the state.
The governor disclosed this in a post on Wednesday, noting that the approval covers Eba community in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
According to Abiodun, the development marks a major economic milestone for Ogun and positions the state as a new contributor to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
He said the approval followed years of exploration and engagement with relevant federal authorities, adding that commercial drilling would open up investment opportunities, create jobs, and boost revenue for both the state and the host communities.
Abiodun assured residents that his administration would work with federal agencies and oil operators to ensure that exploration activities comply with environmental standards and that host communities benefit from the project.
Ogun Waterside, a riverine area bordering Lagos and Ondo states, has long been identified as having hydrocarbon potential, though commercial production had not previously commenced.
The federal government is yet to issue an official statement on the approval.
