‘Those Wishing Me Dead Will Face Tragedy’ –Obasanjo Slams Death Rumours
2 min readFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo has fiercely denounced the false death rumours circulating on social media, declaring that he is alive and in good health.
In a statement on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Old Garage/Oke Fia-Lameco Dual carriageway in Osogbo, Osun State, Obasanjo made it clear that such malicious rumours had no basis in truth.
“I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on social media, I quickly informed my family that I was alive and well. Those who wish me dead, that is their wish, but God keeps me alive,”he said.
The former president expressed shock at the spread of the rumour, questioning the intentions behind such claims and the misuse of modern technology to propagate falsehoods.

“Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves,” he warned, urging the public to be more responsible in their use of social media.
Obasanjo, who was at the event to attend the official inauguration of a major infrastructure project by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, also expressed concern over the disturbing nature of such rumours.
“This kind of rumour is not only disturbing but shows the extent to which some people misuse technology. It is unacceptable,” he added.
Governor Adeleke, who was also present at the event, took the opportunity to highlight the strides made by his administration in improving the state’s infrastructure.
“Our government has constructed over 120 kilometres of roads and we are committed to completing other ongoing projects,” he noted, adding that no loans were taken for the development work, and local content was utilized to keep costs in check.
Both leaders have pledged to continue their efforts in advancing the development of Osun State, with Adeleke promising the completion of key infrastructure projects in the coming months.
