Lagos State Government has appealed to the Senate to hasten deliberations on the motion moved by the Senator representing the Lagos Central District, Oluremi Tinubu, on the gridlock in the Apapa area.

Steve-AyorindeThe Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, who stated this in Alausa on Tuesday, also commended the Senate for approving the motion.

Ayorinde said the development had shown that the state government’s effort at providing solution to the traffic congestion in the area had caught the attention of the Senate.

Ayorinde, who hailed Senator Tinubu for moving the motion, said, “We hope that the Senate will give it priority attention in view of the hardship it has continued to cause residents of the state.

“The intervention from the Senate will go a long way to complement the various moves by the state government to finding a lasting solution to the gridlock.”

The commissioner explained that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had visited the area and had given directives that would ease traffic in the area.

Ayorinde said, “As part of measures to find solution to the gridlock, the state government appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action on the rehabilitation of the Tin Can Island Bridge. On its part, the state government has put in place a joint task force to ensure that traffic situation improves in the area.

“The government is also working on a plan to expand the capacity of the trailer park at Orile to accommodate 1,000 trucks from its current capacity of 350.”
