It’s pathetic to know that Nigeria’s reggae icon, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek is yet to fully recover from the mental illness that has dwindled his music fortunes.

Few days ago at an event held at West Town Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, the illness came to fore again and many at the event including some media practitioners, entertainers and onlookers were nearly reduced to tears.
On his arrival to the hotel, the flabby musician was a bit normal as he exchanged pleasantries with everyone that accosted him or he could recognize. He had come for the unveiling of a reggae event that he might be performing if his illness permits. But unfortunately, after the media launch of the event, he relapsed as he started speaking jargons, constituting nuisance in the environment.   Effort to calm him by his fellow reggae musician, Ras Kimono and many others proved abortive as he went on rampage.
For the past few years, prominent Nigerians including Gov. Oshiomole of Edo State and many others had offered to help the mentally derailed singer, but all their efforts were unfruitful as the artiste himself is not helping things. While under rehabilitation, sources revealed that Majek after a while would sneak out to indulge himself in alcohol and hard substances and consequently he relapsed. He’s also said to be greedy and boastful; some of the bad behaviors that had sent those who want to really help packing.

Meanwhile, some believe his problem stems from spiritism. His cousin, Amos McRoy Jeg, once said that his alliance with Sat Guru Maharaj must have caused him his sanity as he was back in the days reading some books like “Seven Books of Moses” and many more.
Majek is also known to be a bringer of rain. Back in the days, anywhere he sings his hit track, Send Down the Rain, it was surely a downpour; a power we learnt he gained through his dalliance with some unseen spirit.
