Shettima Inaugurates Reconstructed Kaduna Community Two Years After Accidental Bombing

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated newly reconstructed houses in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, under the federal government’s resettlement scheme for communities affected by conflict.

The inauguration comes nearly two years after a tragic military drone strike mistakenly hit the community in December 2023 during a routine counterterrorism operation. The incident occurred while residents were celebrating Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people. Several others sustained injuries, and numerous homes and properties were destroyed.

In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu in July 2024 flagged off the reconstruction of Tudun Biri, promising relief and support for victims and affected families.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, Shettima said the completion of the project reflects the federal government’s commitment to justice, compassion, and national cohesion. He noted that while the loss suffered by the community could not be undone, the government remained determined to restore dignity and provide a sense of normalcy for displaced residents.

The vice-president reiterated the administration’s resolve to support victims of conflict across the country and strengthen measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Community leaders and beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the federal government for fulfilling its promise, describing the reconstructed homes as a crucial step toward healing and rebuilding their lives.
