Senate Approves HND As Minimum Qualification For President, Governors
1 min readA bill seeking to raise the academic qualifications of Presidents and Governor in Nigeria has scaled the second reading on the floor of the Senate.
The bill was sponsored by by Gyang Istifanus, senator representing Plateau north.
The bill, if passed stipulates that for a person to be eligible for the post of a president, such person must possess at least a Higher National Diploma (HND) or it’s equivalent.
Also, a person seeking election into the post of a governor or lawmaker must possess at least a National Diploma (ND) or its equivalent.
Until now, the requirement for any of the stated posts is at least school certificate level or its equivalent.
