Sanwo-Olu to Host World School Games, African Youth Games Athletes
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to host student-athletes who represented the state and Nigeria at the World School Games and the African Youth Games, following their outstanding performances at the international competitions.
The governor is expected to receive the athletes at a special ceremony in Lagos, where he will commend them for their dedication, discipline and historic achievements on the global stage.
The Lagos contingent delivered impressive performances at both events, securing medals and elevating the state’s reputation in youth sports development. Officials described the victories as a testament to sustained investment in grassroots sports and talent nurturing programmes.
Sanwo-Olu has consistently emphasised the importance of sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion and national pride. The reception, according to government sources, will also serve as encouragement for other young athletes to pursue excellence.
Sports administrators and education stakeholders have praised the athletes for making Lagos and Nigeria proud, noting that their success reflects the potential of structured school sports systems.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to providing modern sporting facilities and continued support to young talents to ensure sustained success in future international competitions.
