A court in Russia has banned the Oscar-winning documentary Mr Nobody Against Putin, ruling that the film promotes negative attitudes toward the state and encourages extremist views.

Authorities claimed the documentary contains material that could incite hostility and undermine public trust in the government led by Vladimir Putin.

The decision means the film will no longer be legally distributed or screened within Russia. Officials argued that the ban was necessary to prevent the spread of content they consider harmful to national stability.

However, critics and free speech advocates have condemned the move, saying it reflects growing restrictions on artistic expression and political criticism in the country.

The documentary had previously gained international recognition after winning an Academy Award, drawing global attention to its controversial subject matter.
