Police, School Deny Cover-Up in Toddler Death Probe

The Rivers State Police Command and the management of a school in Elimgbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, have denied allegations of a cover-up in the death of a two-year-old pupil, Miss Winnie Akekue.

The police confirmed that they have received the autopsy report on the child, who reportedly died after a bookshelf fell on her inside a classroom.

According to authorities, the report is being reviewed as part of ongoing investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The school management, in its response, dismissed claims of negligence or attempts to conceal details of the tragedy, insisting that it has cooperated fully with investigators.

Police officials also assured the public of a transparent and thorough probe, stating that anyone found culpable would be held accountable.

The incident has sparked concern among parents and residents, with calls for improved safety measures in schools to prevent similar occurrences.

Observers say the case highlights the need for stricter enforcement of safety standards in educational institutions, particularly those catering to young children.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish responsibility and provide clarity on the circumstances that led to the child’s death.
