1 min read

The Lagos State Police Command has invited the organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest for a meeting ahead of their planned October rally.

The Take It Back Movement, one of the primary organisers of the August protest, has been asked to meet with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola.

According to the invitation letter, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Jaiyeoba Joseph, the meeting will discuss “issues of national interest.”

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 25 September 2024, at 11:00 am, at the office of the Commissioner of Police, located at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

“The new CP just wants to meet everyone,” said Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer. “We have no intention of arresting anyone. It’s a friendly meeting,” he said.

When asked if the planned October protest would be part of the meeting’s agenda, Hundeyin replied, “Of course, the October protest will also be discussed, but it’s not a confrontation. Even if he doesn’t attend, there’s no issue.”

This move by the police comes as a surprise to many, as the previous protest in August was met with arrests and violence. The Take It Back Movement has been vocal about their demands for good governance and an end to corruption.
