PDP Governors Demand Urgent NEC Meeting In February To Resolve Party Crisis
2 min readThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) by the first week of February 2025.
This call, issued after the Forum’s meeting in Jos, Plateau State, reflects the urgency with which the governors believe the party must address its internal challenges.
In a communiqué released following their meeting, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the PDP Governors emphasized that the period between November 2024 and February 2025 would be crucial for resolving the pressing issues facing the party.

These include leadership disputes and ongoing litigation, which have exacerbated divisions within the PDP since the court-ordered removal of former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
“The Forum notes the concerns of Nigerians, PDP founding fathers, elders, and members of our great Party regarding the seeming divisions within the ranks,” the communiqué stated.
“We remain committed to ensuring the unity and cohesion of the PDP, which Nigerians have come to trust as the best platform for democratic governance.”
The governors, acknowledging the tragic loss of Governor Eno Bassey’s wife, expressed sympathy for the bereaved leader, who had requested the delay of the NEC meeting.
They reiterated their commitment to unity and called for decisive action, urging the NWC to schedule the long-awaited NEC meeting by February.
The delay of the NEC meeting, which had been initially planned for August, then postponed to October and later rescheduled for November 28, has further strained relations within the party.
However, the governors stressed that this setback should not hinder the urgent need to resolve leadership and internal legal challenges before the 2025 general elections.
The Forum also voiced concerns about the severe economic hardships facing Nigerians, which they attributed to the policies of the APC-led federal government.
They called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently review the nation’s economic and fiscal policies to alleviate the growing suffering of the populace.
