Oyo State To Ensure Farm Security – Governor’s Aide

Oyo State Government has said it administration headed by Governor Seyi Makinde is working toward ensuring that farmers can go back to their farms anywhere in the state without the fear of being kidnapped, raped, or killed by criminal herdsmen and other hoodlums.

The Executive Adviser to the governor on Agricbusiness, Debo Akande, who is also Director General of Oyo State Agricbusiness Agency, said this in Ibadan on Monday.

Speaking in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of project review meeting with farmers in Oyo State by the Nigeria Competitiveness Project, Akande said the insecurity was a concern to the state government because of its effect on food security.

Akande said the insecurity especially in Ibarapaland and Oke Ogun areas of the state which had forced some fathers to stop going to their farms but said that plans had been mapped out to deal with the situation. He added that the plans would be made public very soon.

He said, “It is a concern that people that are working so hard that we are all fed are now having issues engaging in their activities that they should do without any fear. However, for us a s a state, we don’t do fire brigade approach.

“We are following tactical approach and strategic approach to ensure farm security. But the issue of security is not what you announced anyhow. But I can assure you that the state government under Governor Seyi Makinde is ensuring that farms are secure and farmers and others are safe.

“A committee has been set up to to ensure farm security headed by the Chief of Staff. Both the tactical and strategic approaches towards securing our farms will be made known very soon.”
