Over 150 bandits eliminated after Kano attack, 125 stolen cows recovered

In a major counter-offensive, the Joint Task Force comprising the Nigerian military, the DSS, the Police and other paramilitary agencies had pursued bandits who attacked parts of Kano between Thursday night and Friday morning, chasing them to Kogoro town in Katsina State where about 150 of the attackers were reportedly killed, while 125 stolen cows were recovered.

Confirming the development, the security committee of Faruruwa, Shanono and Bagwai Local Government Areas, through its chairman, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, on Friday highly commended the military, Police, DSS and other paramilitary forces for what he described as a decisive operation.

“I can confirm to You that the Brigade Commander of the Bukavor Barrack, the Kano Police Commissioner and the Director DSS in Kano, led the operation, by chasing the bandits up to Katsina town, Kogoro, killing all of them and recovering the stolen cows”.

Bagobiri hinted that the operation has brought an end to the persistent encroachment of bandits in the area, which they had turned into one of their cattle routes.

Hundreds of motorcycle-riding bandits attacked villages in Shanono Local Government Area between Thursday night and Friday morning but were met with heavy military firepower.

During the attacks, the bandits killed a civilian and made away with over 150 cows. However, troops of the Nigerian military and other security forces pursued them, eliminated the attackers and recovered the stolen livestock.

Yahya Bagobiri, while commending the military, DSS, Police and other security agencies, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the new Defence Minister, General Musa (retd), for their resolve in ensuring peace in Kano and northern Nigeria
