Otti meets with NFF President, orders upgrading of Umuahia Township Stadium

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti says plans have been concluded for the upgrading of the Umuahia Township Stadium to make it suitable for Abia Warriors and other teams as a short term solution.

Otti said this on Wednesday at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA when he received the President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau and his delegation.

“On the issue of the stadium, the Umuahia Township Stadium, not too long ago, I had given approval to upgrade the place and make the place what a stadium should look like,” he said.

The Governor, who said that the upgrade is in the immediate term, said that the architectural design for the building of a stadium city in Umuahia which will provide a long-term solution to sporting activities is in progress.

Otti described football and sports in general as a uniting factor in Nigeria and added that governance and leadership are about impacting on the people positively.

Governor Otti, who assured that he would do his best to ensure that Abia remained on top in various sporting activities, used the opportunity to congratulate President Bola Tinubu on the recent performance of the Super Falcons.

Speaking earlier, Gusau said their visit was to congratulate Governor Otti over his support for sports development in the State, describing Abia as the home of football in Nigeria.

He recalled that the State has won African continental competitions back to back, adding that the history of sports in Nigeria cannot be complete without a mention of the state.
