Ondo Gov Marks 61st Birthday with Amnesty for Seven Inmates
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has granted amnesty to seven inmates in the state to mark his 61st birthday, in a gesture aimed at promoting compassion and restorative justice.
The amnesty, approved in line with constitutional provisions, followed recommendations from the state’s Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy. The beneficiaries, who were serving various jail terms across correctional facilities in the state, were deemed to have shown good conduct and rehabilitation while in custody.
According to the state government, the decision reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s belief in second chances and the reintegration of reformed offenders into society. The governor urged the freed inmates to become law-abiding citizens and contribute positively to their communities.
Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ondo State welcomed the development, describing it as a morale booster for inmates and a reinforcement of ongoing rehabilitation efforts within the correctional system.
The amnesty formed part of activities marking the governor’s birthday, which was observed with low-key events and reflections on service, leadership, and social responsibility.
