Oil Theft: You Were Happy With ‘Last Man Standing’ – Aisha Yesufu Hits Elumelu

Social critic, Aisha Yesufu has mocked Nigerian businessman, Tony Elumelu over his recent interview with the Financial Times in which he lamented about oil theft in the country.

Yesufu said Elumelu was gleeful about the ‘last man standing’, referring to President Bola Tinubu, whom she said never talked about the oil theft.

Recall that Elumelu had in a trending video on social media hailed Tinubu, then a President-elect, as the ‘last man standing’ while on a visit to Elumelu’s residence.

The hailing was an apparent reference to the recent presidential polls in which Tinubu was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Elumelu granted an interview to the Financial Times where he lamented about oil theft.

He said Nigerian government and security agents should be able to tell Nigerians who steal the country’s crude oil, especially using vessels that move through the territorial waters.

The businessman also said he dreaded oil theft, stressing that the menace contributed to the divestment of international oil companies in Nigeria.

Reacting to Elumelu’s interview, Yesufu said Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate, spent most of his campaigning time talking about oil theft but Elumelu wasn’t interested.

“Peter Obi @PeterObi spent most of his campaigning time talking about oil theft but Tony Elumelu was gleeful about the last man standing who never once talked about the oil theft.

Anyway welcome to the club. Las las all of us will be advocates for good governance,” Yesufu posted on X.
